DESCRIPTION:The society are having a Members Only solar eclipse observing session. (The location is emailed to all members)Membership is only £10 a year\, so if you would like to attend please join the society using this link: Membership \n\n\n\nThe next UK partial solar eclipse takes place on Saturday 29 March 2025 in the UK\, beginning at 10.07am GMT and ending at 12pm.The eclipse will reach its ‘maximum’ – the moment when the greatest portion of the Sun is hidden – at 11.03am. During this particular eclipse\, at the maximum around 30-40% of the Sun will be obscured. \n\n\n\nPLEASE REMEMBER TO OBSERVE THE SUN SAFELY. SUMMARY:WOW 9 - WolvAS Observing Week
DESCRIPTION:This is our summer observing event where we travel to rural Shropshire to take advantage of the darker skies.Whilst it gets dark rather late at night and there isn’t true astronomical darkness\, there are a range of astronomical targets that can only be seen at this time of year. \n\n\n\nFollowing the success of our previous WOW events\, we are continuing with the extended format include a few days either side of the weekend. (The new moon is on Friday the 5th of July). \n\n\n\nArrive on or after Wednesday the 3rd of September. Leave on or before Wednesday 10th of September. \n\n\n\nThis is primarily a residential event for tents\, caravans and campervans\, however members who don’t want to stay overnight are welcome to attend for just an evening’s observing. The visitors fee is £5 \n\n\n\nThere is no obligation to come for the whole event\, so you are welcome to come and go as you please for as many nights as you wish. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFull details can be found on our Members Forum or be emailing the Vice President (email address on the poster).

DESCRIPTION:Discover the wonders of the universe at this spectacular stargazing experience in Coalbrookdale. \n\n\n\nLearn about astronomy and the use of telescopes to identify celestial objects. Then have the opportunity to see the hidden wonders of the night sky for yourself. \n\n\n\nEvent attendees are advised to dress according to the weather and the nature of the activity. \n\n\n\nPlease note\, if the weather is unsuitable on the day\, the telescopes will be set up in the Covered Bays and Wolverhampton Astronomical Society Members will deliver a talk instead. \n\n\n\nFree parking for PASS PLUS holders and Friends does not apply for this event. DESCRIPTION:The peak of the Perseid meteor shower is in the early hours of the morning of Sunday the 13th August\, so Saturday the 12th presents the best opportunity for viewing\, subject to suitable weather conditions. SUMMARY:Transit of Mercury
DESCRIPTION:We will be set up outside the Halfpenny Green Vineyard café to watch the transit of Mercury with several scopes (H-alpha and white light filters). The site offers good views of the southern horizon\, and should allow us to see as much of the transit as possible (weather permitting). There’s also the café available for hot food and drink if it’s cloudy!
